Ananth Kumar’s drama The Grandmaster, which opens in Delhi on February 21, is about the rise of the Rajputs in the early 20th century.
It follows the rise to power of the then-ruling Congress party.
The actor-writer-director-filmmaker has made headlines for his political commentary, especially in the film, and has criticised the BJP and the Congress party’s stance on the economy.
His latest film, The Grandmasters, is his second Hindi release, following 2011’s Darshan which was directed by the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan, Salman Khan and Deepika Padukone.
The film is being released on the eve of the general elections in India, which will see the BJP-led coalition, which has held power since 2002, re-enter power.
In the movie, the main character (played by Ananth), is a Rajput warrior who is sent to fight for the British during the Indian Independence Movement (IIM) of 1947.
His family is also a Rajpersuks, the elite caste of the ruling party.
The movie opens with the family’s house being ransacked, with a bullet casing thrown in their direction.
A few days later, the Rajpersuk leader, Captain Vidyasagar, is sent on a mission to the UK, seeking a settlement for the family.
The story then shifts to the rise in the popularity of the British Raj, as the British rule is seen as an economic success story.
The film’s title, “The Grandmaster”, means “grand master” in Hindi.
The word “grand” is a reference to the British rulers, and the character in the movie is referred to as “The Rajput”.
In the film’s plot, the family travels to the USA and meets an English-speaking doctor, who is an important member of the American government.
The doctor has an eye for talent and has arranged for a young Rajput to be made the leading man of a play, and he is then sent to the US to study.
The story follows the adventures of the film-maker, played by Anand Bhattacharya.
He is a veteran actor, having played leading roles in such films as Aishwarya Rai, Manohar Lal, Amitabhadra, Priyanka Chopra and Priyat Pancholi.
In the film he also narrates some of the dialogue.
Ananth Kumar also has a long history with politics.
He has served as an MP in the Rajasthan assembly and has been a leader of the anti-graft movement.
He also holds the rank of senior minister in the government.
He was a member of parliament in the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) led by Sonia Gandhi from 1999 to 2013.
Anand has also worked with several actors in his films, including Aamir Khan, Priya Chopra, Salman, Amit and Irrhan.
In his films and on stage, he has been nominated for a Padma Bhushan.
